In Memory of Gene Gill

Gene Gill retired from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey as Director of General Services in 1995. She began her career with the Port Authority in Operation Services and later served as Deputy Director of the Management Services Department. Among her many other qualities she was known for her mentorship of women and men throughout her career. She had a keen eye for talent paying particular attention to people working in facility operations.

She moved to Manhattan in 1957. She worked for the Girl Scouts of America, State of New York and on Wall Street prior to joining the Port Authority. She remained an avid theatre attendee until shortly before her death. She served on the Boards of the Theater Development Fund, Playwrights Horizons and her Co-op.

After her retirement she became an active member of the Jane Austen Society. She wrote several back-stories for characters from Pride and Prejudice for the book “What Jane Austen Didn’t Tell Us! “.

She was buried with her parents in Glens Falls, New York. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Bowery Mission or charity of your choice.
