The Port Authority PBA is saddened by the passing of retired Port Authority Police Officer Dominick Ricigliano.
Police Officer Ricigliano was a veteran of the Viet Nam War and a long-time member of the PAPD Bus Terminal Command.
In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, Dominick was one of twelve members of PAPD Team Romeo, a squad of retired Port Authority cops who responded to the World Trade Center and worked in the rescue and recovery mission until its conclusion.
In an excerpt from Rising From The Ashes, The True Story of 9/11 and Recovery Team Romeo, the author, retired PAPD Lieutenant Tony Zeoli, writes, "Dom Ricigliano - 'Rigley' to his close friends - was another retired senior veteran of the PAPD and the Viet Nam War. He was born, raised, and still lives in Bay Ridge and was extremely proud of his Italian roots. Rigley, like many of the other 12, spent most of his police career assigned to the Bus Terminal Command in Midtown. It was a place that sat like a fortress in the very heart of Times Square and offered a refuge for some and a perpetual cornucopia of victims to others.
Rigley enjoyed working there because it offered him a myriad of different experiences on a daily basis. On any given day an officer assigned to this command could handle almost any incident ranging from missing kids to violent homicides. Working there usually meant a very busy and interesting day that went by extremely fast and with very little boredom."
