Ronald Monaco, 77, entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at the Hunterdon Medical Center with loving family by his side. Born in Queens, NY, son of the late Frank and Josephine (nee Dambra) Monaco, he was raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. He then resided in Massapequa, NY, Sayreville, NJ, Bridgewater, NJ, and Readington, NJ where he was for forty-five years only recently moving to Flemington.
Ron was a graduate of Brooklyn Polytech, later earning a MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ. He began his career at Grumman in Bethpage, NY as an aeronautical engineer, working on the Apollo Lunar Module. While at Grumman, he met the girl he would later go on to joins hands in Holy Matrimony. Ron then went on to work for Con Edison in Manhattan as a civil engineer, the BOC Group in Murray Hill, NJ as a manager of cost control where he was for over twenty-eight years, and the Port Authority in Manhattan as a Director for the engineering department. He then retired and went on to earn a Municipal CFO certification most recently working as the CFO for the borough of Haworth, NJ.
Ron participated in a myriad of committees and volunteer organizations throughout his years most notably Readington Township Committee, Readington Township Planning Board, the Hunterdon Land Trust, NJ Transit North Jersey Passenger Advisory Committee (NJPAC), Go Hunterdon, Whitehouse Station Library Committee and the list goes on.
Ron was dedicated and passionate in all that he did especially his love and support for his family. He enjoyed more than anything time spent with them, especially his grandchildren who adored him. Ron had many hobbies. He was a model railroad enthusiast and train buff. He loved looking through his telescope identifying stars, birdwatching, raising chickens/quail/ducks, gardening, History, and Walt Disney World. Lastly, Ron loved German Shepherds, having 4 throughout his lifetime, loving each of them dearly.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ella (nee Vetrano) Monaco with whom he joined hands in marriage in 1973, two loving twin daughters, Cathy and her husband Michael Adamo of Flemington and Patricia and Kevin Wallace of Readington: and dear brother, Nicholas Monaco. He will also be deeply missed by his six cherished grandchildren (Gabrielle, Kristina, Samantha, Alessandra, Trevor, Ronan) along with many nieces, nephews and his loved canine friend, Drake.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, July 16, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. with the Vigil prayers officiated by Lazarus members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. and eulogies by family and friends at 6:00 p.m.; an additional viewing time will be on Monday, July 17 from 10-11 a.m.at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887. Funeral services will begin on Monday, July 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Thomas J. Serafin, KCHS, officiating, followed by committal words and interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Annandale, NJ.
