Beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Bernard J. Rooney died at home on November 17, 2023, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. His Irish smile and wonderful zest for life endeared him to everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, his two children, Christopher Rooney (Laura) and Megan Good (George), and four amazing grandchildren: Desmond and Avery Rooney and Declan and Vivian Good. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Rooney, and brother, Patrick Denis Rooney (Patricia). One brother, Father Ted Rooney, preceded him in death.
Barney was born to James and Mary Rooney in Brooklyn, New York on May 1, 1940. He married Vera Fox in 1970 and they raised their family in New York. Barney practiced law in New York City for 25 years. His office was on the 66th floor of the World Trade Center and he survived both the first bombing and the attacks on 9/11. After Barney retired in 2002, he followed his lifelong love of learning. He studied mythology and wrote a book entitled "Mythology in our 21st Century."
A private celebration of Barney's life will follow. In lieu of flowers, one may remember Barney by paying forward to someone in need. He would like that.
