Josephine J. Schmitt passed away on August 16, 2021, at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Schmitt, who passed away in 2010.

Josephine was born and raised in Staten Island where she attended Port Richmond High and St. Peters College. She was a retired toll supervisor for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where she worked at the Staten Island facilities for many years. Josephine and her husband moved to Port Monmouth, NJ in 1978 to be closer to her daughter Joanne and her family. In 1984, we all moved to Pine Beach, NJ to be closer to her son-in-law’s employment. When Josephine was able, she and her husband enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, playing bingo, and most of all she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and the births of her great-grandchildren. Josephine always enjoyed writing in to “Four View,” printed in the Asbury Park Press.

Josephine was a loving mother to Joanne and her son-in-law John “Jack” Mallon with whom she resided. She was a loving grandmother to Cheryl and her husband Joseph Jerabek and John “JJ” and his wife Stephani Mallon. Also surviving are her five great-grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlin Jerabek, Victoria, Kenny and Ryan Mallon, her brother Philly and his wife Janet Mercurio, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Logan.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721. A funeral mass will take place at St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd., Bayville, NJ 08721 on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 11am.
