Chester Kretkowski, age 97, of Lakewood, New Jersey passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Chester was born and raised in Jersey City, lived in Dumont before retiring to the Jersey Shore. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Chester worked as an electrical engineer for the Port Authority of NY and NJ for many years. Mr. Kretkowski was an avid dancer and golfer, belonging to the Gaelic Golf Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle and will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Kretkowski is predeceased by his first wife Muriel, sisters, Stella Kretkowski, Jean Dziobkowski and Helen Kretkowski.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Doris, daughters, Karen Krehel and her husband Keith and Donna Tropiano, grandchildren, Lauren Kirt and her husband Mac, Kathryn Shaikh and her husband Sohail, Keith Steven Krehel and Lisa Tropiano, four great grandchildren and nephews, Chester and Robert Dziobkowski.
Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 10-11AM at the D'Elia Funeral Home 1300 Vermont Ave Lakewood, NJ 08701. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11AM at the funeral home. Interment of cremated remains will immediately follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.
