The Statue of Liberty with the downtown Manhattan skyline on a beautiful summer day

Dear Retiree,

The Network for Emerging Talent (NET) is a group for early career professionals at the Port Authority. The PARA Board was approached by a member of NET who is coordinating PA participation in a NYC Census Phone Banking Volunteer effort along with the Port Authority Hispanic Society. The phone bank calls, made from volunteers' homes, will be held on August 20th and 27th

Here is the essence of the PA Broadcast sent to staff about this effort:

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges to the 2020 U.S. Census count. With the realities of social distancing and quarantining, door-to-door in-person canvassing has become more difficult, yet the Census remains as vital as ever. Population data is used to determine federal funding for programs, services and political representation that impacts the quality of life in a community, and areas with marginalized populations have often been under-counted.

Recognizing the critical importance of this effort, the Network for Emerging Talent (NET) and Port Authority Hispanic Society (PAHS) Employee Business Resource Groups have organized a volunteer opportunity to join a phone bank for the U.S. Census, calling individuals in designated hard-to-reach neighborhoods. Here are the phone bank times:

·     Phone Banking Session 1: Thursday, August 20 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

·     Phone Banking Session 2: Thursday, August 27 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Click here to register for a session. A brief training will be provided at the start of each session, and a Census coordinator will be on hand throughout – so join us in moving the region from the comfort of your couch. Email net@panynj.gov with any questions.

Should you wish to join this effort, please follow the links above to register.

Very sincerely,

Your PARA Board
