Charles E. Newman

August 26, 1933 - October 9, 2020


Honored by NY/NJ Port Authority after law enforcement career

Charles E. Newman, 87, of Caldwell, N.J., passed away on Oct. 9, 2020.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, 1 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Westville Avenue, Caldwell, N.J. (Due to COVID 19 restrictions masks and social distancing are required at the cemetery.)

Born in Glen Ridge, Mr. Newman was a resident of Montclair before moving to Caldwell.
He had a long and distinguished career with the New York/New Jersey Port Authority before retiring as assistant director of public safety and deputy superintendent of police. He was the recipient of the Port Authority Medal of Honor.

Mr. Newman was a member of numerous law enforcement organizations.  A veteran, he proudly served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Newman is survived by his life partner, Donna Casciano; nephew, Gregory (Ina) Reilly, and nieces, Linda (Sidney) Niper and Renee (David Ellis) Reilly; great niece and nephews, Wendy, Glen and Braden, and great-great nieces and nephew, Minna, Westley and Penelope.  He was predeceased by his former wife, Elaine Hynes, and sister, Eleanor Reilly.
