Charles P. Belmonte

Charles P. Belmonte, WWII veteran and POW, Port Authority supervisor Charles P. Belmonte, 93, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, N.J.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., he lived in North Arlington, N.J., since 1960. Funeral Parow Funeral Home, 185 Ridge Rd., North Arlington is on Friday, July 1 at 8:30am. thence to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, North Arlington for the Funeral Mass at 9:45am. Entombment is in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Mr. Belmonte worked for the Port Authority at Newark Airport as an electrician and the Port Authority in New York City as a training supervisor for 36 years before retiring in 1984.

Mr. Belmonte served proudly in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. During his seventh mission on a B17 bomber, he was shot down over Germany and captured. He was a prisoner of war for nine months before being liberated. Charlie was the recipient of several medals and participated in the Great March through Europe.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4697 and the American Legion Post No. 37, both of North Arlington, and the in Belleville. Mr. Belmonte served as a councilman in North Arlington from 1984 to 2002. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace Council No. 3428, the Happy Senior Citizens, and the Nutrition Center, all of North Arlington and a member of Helping Exceptional People (formerly the El Sheedy Caravan of the Alhambra ).

He was the beloved husband of the late Angela Belmonte (nee Adduchio); the devoted father of Charles A. Belmonte and his wife, Micki, Joanne Hazzard and her husband, Gerry, and Patricia A. Frelick and her husband, Jeff; cherished grandfather of Tracey, Eric, Gerry, Kate, Nico, Sal, and Francesca, and adored great-grandfather of James, Jake, Christian, Larry, and Julian.
