In Memoriam

In Memory of

Charles Barzydlo

July  17, 2016

Charles Barzydlo, 58, of Cresco, died on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Michele (Tranchita) with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the son of Charles and Grace (Koscielicki) Barzydlo and the grandson of Mary Barzydlo, all of East Stroudsburg.

A retired Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Officer and U.S. Marine, Charles was the epitome of faithful service and dedication. He was part of the elite Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department Emergency Service Unit — a unit uniquely trained and equipped to perform tactical and technical rescue duty for other department elements.

In 1985, he graduated from the Port Authority Police Academy and embarked on a journey that would become one of his biggest life changing events. In September of 2001, Charles became one of the first responders at the World Trade Center. He not only served as a specially trained police officer this day, but as a colleague, a brother and a hero. He would spend an additional six months dedicating his time and effort to the strenuous tasks that followed the attacks.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and soon after his retirement in 2006, he and his wife, Michele, and children would relocate from Point Pleasant, New Jersey, to the Pocono Mountains, where he quickly made many new friends and became the neighborhood’s go to guy for organizing many hunting excursions.

Above all else, he was a dedicated and faithful, husband, father, grandfather, son, grandson, brother, and friend.

In addition to his wife, parents and grandmother, he is survived by his son, Eric Barzydlo and his wife, Alexandra, of Etters; his daughter, Danielle Barzydlo of Allentown; a brother, Ronald Barzydlo and his wife, Mary, of Cresco; a sister, Cheryl Monczka and her husband, Michael, of East Stroudsburg; two grandchildren, Alaina and Ethan Barzydlo; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

There will be a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Rev. Fr. Richard Czachor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22 at Our Lady of Victory Church, 327 Cherry Lane Road, Tannersville. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Charles, may be made to the Headstrong Foundation, a foundation that supports lymphoma and Leukemia patients and families, at 232 Green Ave., Holmes, PA 19043; or by visiting
