Gloria Elaine Turner

September 26, 2014

Gloria Elaine Turner, 66, of Lakewood passed away on September 26, 2014. She was well known and greatly loved. She was affectionately called “Glo” and “Nani” by her friends and family. She was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey to parents Grace and William Liggs.  A graduate of Lincoln High School, she went on to graduate from Essex Business College and excelled as a court stenographer.

Gloria worked many years at the World Trade Center for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey until she retired in 2009 with awards for thirty years of excellent service.  She is a 9-11 survivor who has battled through its aftereffects for the past several years.

Gloria was known for being outgoing, outspoken, meticulous and having a great sense of humor.  She was a hard working woman that was always respected and admired by her family, peers and neighbors. In her lifetime she enjoyed supporting family, entertaining, home decorating and improvement (an HGTV fan), motorcycle riding, traveling, and all things concerning her only child, LaTonya. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Shayna Turner-McRae.

As Gloria rests in peace, she leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, LaTonya and Stephen McRae, sister, Joyce Jeter, grandchildren, Skyla Grace and DiCarlo Rivera, Stephanie McRae, great-granddaughter, Rhea McRae, and her beloveds, Kishoredath Boodram, Tamika Jeter Choice, Vincent Jackson and a host of other important and precious relatives and friends.

Services are entrusted to Higgins Memorial Home of Freehold.  The viewing will be held at the Faith Tabernacle Church, 11 Avenue A, Freehold, New Jersey 07728 on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 11a.m. to noon followed by funeral services at noon.
