In Memoriam

In Memory of
Harry Anderson

December 17, 1949 – February 26, 2013

Being a Retired Port Authority Police Officer was one of Harry’s proudest life achievements.  He served for 24 years retiring in 1999.

Most of his career was served at the Holland Tunnel.  Many of his locker room stories were hilarious but he only accepted positive statements about the Port Authority in his presence.  Harry also played Basketball for the Port Authority with outstanding results.

Harry was a proud member of PARA and attended the yearly Christmas gatherings until his health interfered.  He reached out to many of his fellow retired officers maintaining a network of friends.

Here are parts of the Jersey Journal news article published at Harry’s passing:

“Whether as a pinpoint jumper in the Weehawken gym or a precision cut to the basket at Saint Peter’s College, former Weehawken resident Harry Anderson will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest Hudson County players to ever step foot on a basketball court….…..”

“Anderson, who was also a Hudson County Hall of Famer, averaged 30.9 points a game in Weehawken’s 1967-68 season when he also became the school’s first 1,000-point scorer. [before the 3 point shot was counted].  Anderson was named an All-American during his senior season highlighted by a 50-point performance against the now-defunct Union Hill.”

“Anderson played for Jacksonville University in Florida for one year before returning home to Saint Peter’s.  During his collegiate career, Anderson scored 968 points for the Peacocks.”

“Anderson was drafted by the Atlanta Hawke of the NBA, the Pittsburgh Condors of the ABA…[and the Cowboys of the NFL].”

Harry was the beloved husband of Rhoda Anderson.  He also left a sister, niece and nephews along with many cousins and friends.

Boxers were Harry’s beloved dogs over his lifetime.  Donations in Harry’s name may be made to:
AdoptABoxer Rescue, PO. Box 270551, West Hartford, CT. 06127 or [be sure to include his name].

All Harry’s friends and fellow police officers can write a message on the permanent Memory book for Harry at
