Alfred Lucien Riva

Riva Alfred Lucien, 82, of Pompton Plains,
formerly of Ridgefield Park, died at home Tuesday,
October 27, 2009.Born in Union City, Alfred was the son
of Felice and Inez (nee Serino) Riva. After high
school, Alfred served in the Navy during World War II.
He was one of the original crew on board the USS Midway.
Marrying Edith Eibell 62
years ago, the couple settled in Ridgefield Park, where
they raised six children. Alfred worked as the Fire &
Safety Director for the Port Authority of NY and NJ at
Port Newark for many years, retiring on June 16, 1989.
Afterwards, he became the Executive Director of FAPS.
Throughout his life, Alfred was involved in numerous
charitable organizations. He was a treasured husband,
father and friend. He is survived by his loving
wife, Edith; his son, Glen Charles Riva; his daughters,
Kathleen Mary Riva, Eileen Gentile, Gail Riva White,
Jane Ann Ghilain, and Mary Dalonges; his brother, Peter;
his sisters, Violet Riva and Lorraine O'Connell; 13
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be
Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the M. John Scanlan Funeral
Home, Pompton Plains. A funeral Mass will be held
11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church,
155 West Parkway, Pompton Plains. Interment will follow
at the First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.

In honor of Alfred's many
years of service at Port Newark, a special Mass will be
held in his honor 12 p.m. Thursday at the Stella Maris
Chapel at Port Newark. Viewing will be held before Mass
at the Chapel, starting at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers,
donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St.
Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation, 1034 Salem Road, Union, NJ 07083 would be
