I have some very sad news to report – Michelle just called me to say that Tony died this afternoon, peacefully and with family around him.  She asked that I let as many people know as possible, so please share it with others I’ve unintentionally overlooked.  This is such tragic news at any time, but particularly during the holiday season.  I know they are all in our thoughts.

The following arrangements have been made.

Bolock Funeral Home

And here’s an obituary which just appeared in the funeral home’s web page (the PA info was contributed by at least Dave Gallagher & Ernesto Butcher).  You’ll see that there’s a short blessing service at around 8 pm to end the second viewing period.  Burial will be private.

Anthony J. Barber, Jr.
(July 21, 1938 - December 22, 2007)
Anthony J. Barber, Jr. 69, passed away on Saturday, December 22 at his home in Pocono Pines, Pa. He was the husband of Michelle (Neglia) Barber.

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, he was the son of Antoinette (Izzi) Barber of New Jersey and the late Anthony Barber.

Anthony was a 30-year member of the management and senior executive group of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey before retiring in 1994. He rose to the position of Director of the Agency’s Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals Department where he was responsible for overseeing the work of an 1800-person group in the overall operations, maintenance, security and construction of the network of trans Hudson Bridges and Tunnels, the three Staten Island Bridges connecting with New Jersey as well as the midtown Bus Terminal in New York City.

Following his time with the Port Authority, he served as National Director of Toll Facilities in the business development group for HNTB, a worldwide leader in highway and toll system design and construction.  He was an active member in the nation’s highway transportation industry and for more than 30 years served in various roles of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA), including as a member of its executive board holding the role of chairman and honorary member. He was also the founding director of the Inter Agency Group (E-Z Pass).

In addition to his wife, Michelle and mother, Antoinette, he is survived by a son, Anthony C. Barber of OR; three daughters, Kelly Lewis of CA, Christine Alden of MD, and Laura Barber of PA; a son-in-law, Franklin Alden of MD; a brother, Gary Barber of NJ; and a sister, Marie Romani of NJ.

A Blessing Service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. There will be a viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made in honor of Anthony to the American Cancer Society (, 800-227-2345) or to the American Lung Association (, 212-315-8700). Donations may also be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice (960 North Main Avenue, Scranton, PA 18505, 866-744-9660).

Webmaster's Note:  I worked for Tony for many years in TB&T and consider him to be one of the really nice guys I have ever known in my life.  Tony comes from an era of the Port Authority that I still remember as the best time in my 36 years at the PA.  We will all miss you Tony, Rest in Peace......Joe SanSevero
